Medical Officer (Adv#98/2025)

This position will primarily be hired for the Environmental Health and WASH Research Group within the Health Systems and Population Studies Division, focusing on a study aimed at conducting a comprehensive health assessment of adolescent girls and women in hard-to-reach communities of Bangladesh. The study involves a multi-level stakeholder engagement, including the Directorate General of Health Services, Civil Surgeons, and Community Leaders.

Key responsibilities:

The Medical Officer
will report to the Associate Scientist. The position holders will be responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing research with the objective of managing and collecting high-quality data, analyze, writing reports and manuscripts, and documentation within the guidelines of the research protocol and organizational values and guidelines. He/she will be responsible for:  

  • Supervise the team in preparing the project plan, implementing the project, and collecting high-quality data in a timely manner, adhering to the ethical guidelines;
  • Identify potential stakeholders, key informants, and research participants following the eligibility criteria;
  • Facilitate divisional and district-level workshops with relevant government and non-government stakeholders;
  • Supervise workshop arrangement team for selecting venues, acquire logistics, and communicate with vendors;
  • Arrange medical camps for adolescent girls and women in hard-to-reach areas across the country;
  • Perform visual inspection with acetic acid (VIA) for cervical cancer screening;
  • Work with PI in developing SBCC materials on water, sanitation, and hygiene behavior changes with a focus on adolescent health;
  • Develop draft reports for donors and prepare the final report for submission to the donor;
  • Guide team members on completion of tasks, activities, reports, and documentation;
  • Mentor and train staff on-the-job in the field, and provide feedback to the supervisor on the overall team's performance to have a strong and motivated team;
  • Promote a spirit of collegiality amongst the team members;
  • Encourage team members to collaborate and work together;
  • Take appropriate actions to manage poor performance (such as refresher training) in order to build and develop an engaged and high-performing team.
Required experience and qualifications
  • MBBS with MPH
  • At least six (6) years of clinical experience.
  • Minimum two (2) years of clinical experience in Gynecology and Obstetrics.
  • Experience in performing Visual Inspection with Acetic Acid (VIA) for cervical cancer screening.
  • Experience in conducting medical camps for women and adolescent girls.
  • Experience in writing manuscripts, technical reports, and conference papers.
  • Experience in working with government or non-government health-related projects will be given preference. 

Location: Dhaka

Contract Type and duration:

  • CSA basis for 03 months with a possibility of extension subject to availability of funds and performance.

Salary & benefits:

  • Tk/-1, 34,048 per month (consolidated) inclusive of house rent and conveyance allowances;
  • Festival bonus, income tax paid by icddr,b and subsidized canteen; Transport and daycare facilities are subject to space availability.
