Senior Technical Assistant with Matlab Laboratory under the Support Services (Internal#43/2026)

The Matlab Laboratory under Support Services provides laboratory outreach services to the local community. The laboratory offers both inpatient and outpatient clinical diagnostic services, which include patient registration, billing, sample collection, laboratory processing, conducting clinical tests and assays, and timely delivery of diagnostic reports.

Key Responsibilities:

The Senior Technical Assistant will report to Senior Scientific Officer and will be responsible to assist and perform laboratory tests/assays and carry out cleaning and washing of labware with the objective of smooth functioning of laboratory operation within the guidelines of organizational values and guidelines.

The Senior Technical Assistant will be responsible for following duties and responsibilities:

• Assist and perform laboratory Test/assay: Monitor laboratory testing conducted by senior staff, undergoes training on test parameters, adheres to SOPs; Apply technical skills to perform Microbiological, Biochemical and Microscopy and Hematology testing;
• Cleaning and Washing Lab Materials: Maintain routine cleanliness of laboratory workbenches using a soft cloth soaked in appropriate antiseptic solutions; Prepare detergent, acid, and antiseptic solutions for cleaning laboratory plasticware, glassware, and other equipment etc; Dry laboratory wares in designated drying ovens following standard procedures;
• Organize laboratory working environment: Place all laboratory wares in designated locations to ensure easy retrieval and accessibility; Maintain usage logs for laboratory materials and equipment; Regularly monitor and maintain the set temperatures of thermal equipment; Provide timely feedback and updates to the supervisor; Keep laboratory workspaces and surrounding areas clean and dry to ensure the quality and safety of laboratory activities;
• Collect and receive Specimens for primary processing: Select appropriate blood collection tubes according to the required tests and label each tube with patient initials; Collect venous and capillary (finger-prick) blood samples at the specimen counter following standard guidelines and best practices; Verify prescriptions, test requests, and payment receipts prior to specimen collection; Check the specimen acceptance criteria and receive and assign respective lab ID in system; Perform primary processing of blood, urine, stool, and other biological specimens and prepare samples for testing and laboratory assays;
• Maintain Biosafety and biohazard: Adhere to standard biosafety guidelines at all times; Use appropriate laboratory personal protective equipment (PPE) to ensure safety; Designate specific areas for storing biohazard specimens; identify hazardous materials and arrange separate waste bins for their safe disposal; Maintain specific disposal bins for sharp materials.

Required qualification and experience:

• Diploma in Medical Technology(Lab).
• 3 years of relevant experience in a recognized laboratory.

No of Post: One (1)

Contract Type and duration:

• Short Term Contractual Service Agreement (CSA) basis; duration will be 11 months with a possibility of extension subject to availability of funds and performance.

Salary & benefits:

• Tk.33,396/-(consolidated) per month inclusive of house rent and conveyance allowances.
• Festival allowance, income tax paid by icddr, b and subsidized canteen. Transport and Daycare facilities are subject to space availability.
