icddr,b is a Bangladesh-based international health research institute committed to addressing key public health challenges through high-quality research and innovation.
The Virology Laboratory of the Infectious Diseases Division conducts high-quality research and provides technical support to ongoing projects and training programs. The laboratory works on a broad range of human and animal viral infections. Beyond viral research, the laboratory also studies clinically significant non-viral microorganisms. The Virology Laboratory initiated a pilot study “Investigating Reproductive Tract Infections (RTIs) and Associated Factors Among Ever-Married Women and Girls of Forcefully Displaced Myanmar Nationals (FDMN)” that seeks to address existing gaps by investigating the prevalence of common RTIs, identifying associated risk behaviours, and assessing the level of knowledge among the FDMN population.

The Research Assistant will report to the Research Investigator and will be responsible for performing the following duties and responsibilities:

- Process and store biological specimens from enrolled patients and monitor proper storage in the refrigerator;
- Assist in performing PCR, real-time RT-PCR-based viral detection, and typing;
- Perform and carry out laboratory assays or research-based assigned duties as per direction from supervisor;
- Develop new skills and capabilities on diverse technical projects and balance with developing scientific expertise;
- Maintain safety procedures in the laboratory with appropriate knowledge of handling infectious biological agents;
- Handle and dispose of bio-hazardous laboratory reagents and chemicals to maintain good laboratory practice and a safe working environment;
- Update the chemicals and media inventory regularly to smooth the functioning of the Lab.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Microbiology/Genetic Engineering/Biotechnology/Biochemistry with good academic records.
- At least 3 years of laboratory research experience in the relevant field.

Contract Type and Duration:
- Short-Term; duration will be 06 months with a possibility of extension, subject to availability of funds and performance.
Salary & Benefits:
- Tk.41,522/-per month (consolidated) inclusive of house rent and conveyance allowances; festival bonus, income tax paid by icddr,b and subsidized canteen. Transport and daycare facilities are subject to space availability.
