The Infectious Diseases Division conducts high-quality research and provides technical support to ongoing projects and training programs. It works on a broad range of human and animal infectious diseases, and clinical trials of new therapeutics and vaccines.

Position Description:
The Senior Technical Assistant will report to the Head of the Animal Resources Facility and will be responsible for the following duties and responsibilities:

• Provide food and potable water to all assigned animal species based on species-specific nutritional protocols and approved feeding schedules/SOPs;
• Perform animal restraint only when required, using scientifically accepted, species-appropriate techniques to minimize stress and risk;
• Conduct all animal handling activities in compliance with safety protocols and PPE requirements under supervisor instruction;
• Execute routine cleaning, disinfection, and maintenance of walk floors, cages, pens, trays, and animal housing accessories for rabbits, rats, mice, guinea pigs, and sheep;
• Follow ABSL-II biosafety guidelines, using validated disinfectants and prescribed contact times to ensure containment and prevent cross-contamination;
• Prepare and manage clean, species-appropriate bedding materials in accordance with approved SOPs;
• Support preparation and allocation of concentrated feed for sheep as per approved SOPs under supervisor guidance;
• Maintain accurate daily records in both digital systems and manual logs, ensuring traceability and compliance with colony management protocols;
• Perform assigned duties on a roster basis throughout the year, including weekends and holidays;

• HSC or Diploma in Veterinary Technology with a good academic record;
• At least 3 years of relevant field experience. Working knowledge of computer applications (MS-Office) and data recording systems is desirable.

Location: Animal Resources Branch, Mohakhali, Dhaka

Contract Type and Duration:

• Fixed Term; duration will be 01 year with a possibility of extension, subject to availability of funds and performance.

 
Salary & benefits: 

• Annual Salary of Tk.400,760/- inclusive of house rent, conveyance allowances and other admissible benefits, including provident fund contribution, income tax paid by icddr,b, children's allowance, festival bonus, contributory healthcare support, group life insurance, and subsidized canteen. Transport and daycare facilities are subject to space availability.
