Research Fellow with Maternal and Child Nutrition under the Nutrition Research Division (Adv#68/2026)

Maternal and Child Nutrition under the Nutrition Research Division is conducting a research in order to build and validate machine learning models that use early-life enteropathogen exposure data to predict linear growth faltering and malnutrition by 24 months of age across multiple low- and middle-income country (LMIC) sites.

Key Responsibilities:

The Research Fellow reporting to the Principal Investigator will be involved in rigorous data analysis using both traditional and machine learning approaches; writing protocols and manuscripts, support the development of successful proposals related to research on maternal and child nutrition, and coordination of research activities. S/he will be responsible for:

• Work with PI in developing a detailed research design, study implementation plan, and study methodology;
• Work with large datasets, build statistical models using machine learning approaches;
• Circulate new protocol drafts internally and externally, seek feedback and modify accordingly, Seek approval from Finance, RRC, ERC etc. on protocol;
• Coordinate with Research Administration (RA) unit of icddr,b for approvals for research-related activities;
• Monitor the project-related activities and staff;
• Under the guidance of PI, apply rigorous scientific analysis to derive meaningful inferences from data; Evaluate those inputs and develop a draft report;
• Work jointly with PI and other team members to develop manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals;

Required qualifications and experience:

• Master’s in Computer Sciences and Engineering/Statistical domain with an excellent academic record.(atleast CGPA 3.5 on a 4-point scale for both Bachelor’s and Master’s degree);
• Candiate having both theoretical and practical experience in machine learning approaches and publications in peer-reviewed journals will get preference;
• Proficiency in R and/or Python;
• Strong communication and writing skills in English;

Location: Dhaka

Contract Type and Duration:

• Fellowship agreement; duration will be 1 year with a possibility of extension subject to availability of funds and performance.

Salary & Benefits:

Stipend: Tk. 59,140/-per month (consolidated) inclusive of house rent and conveyance allowances. Income tax paid by icddr,b, and subsidized canteen. 

Evaluation & certification: The progress of the Fellows will be monitored and evaluated. On successful completion of training and final evaluation, the Research Fellow will be awarded a certificate.

Prospects:

After completion of at least 1 (one) year Fellowship, Fellows will be eligible to apply for any other suitable posts against icddr,b vacancy announcements. However, such posts are not guaranteed.
