Research Investigator with Emerging & Re-emerging Infections under the Infectious Diseases Division (Internal#76/2026)

icddr,b is a Bangladesh-based international health research institute committed to addressing key public health challenges through high-quality research and innovation.

The Programme for Emerging & Re-emerging Infections at icddr,b is implementing a project that  focuses on advancing epidemiological modelling and innovative detection approaches to improve the early detection, prediction, and response to respiratory pathogens with pandemic potential. The programme aims to develop novel methods and tools to support public health decision-making in resource-limited healthcare settings, addressing critical gaps in infectious disease preparedness and strengthening responses to emerging respiratory threats globally.

 The Research Investigators report to the principal investigator and will be responsible for developing concept notes, participating in protocol and manuscript writing, coordinating research studies in collaboration with government and non-government, national and international partners, within the guidelines of the research protocol and organizational values. 

 The specific areas of responsibility include:

  • Contribute to developing the Epidemiology-informed Domain-specific Foundation Model (EDFM) while leveraging a wide range of retrospective and real-time multimodal data sources
  • Extract and handle data from large publicly available databases (e.g., Copernicus)
  • Create a data repository for the emerging respiratory pathogens (e.g., influenza, including zoonotic strains) to integrate into EDFM
  • Manage, clean, and analyze research datasets; develop statistical analysis plans and contribute to report writing
  • Facilitate stakeholder engagement, including national and international consultations and workshops with government and non-government partners;
  • Contribute to proposal development and translation of findings into policy-relevant evidence.
  • Review current scientific literature to support research innovation and contribute to the development of new project ideas and proposals.

Required qualifications and experience:

  • MPH from a reputed university with an excellent academic record;
  • Publications in reputed Journals will be given preference;
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in public health research, preferably in respiratory and emerging infections.

Contract Type and duration:

  • Short Term Contractual Service Agreement basisduration will be 6 months with a possibility of extension subject to availability of funds and performance.

Salary & Benefits:

  • Tk.1,40,750/-per month (consolidated) inclusive of house rent and conveyance allowances;
  • Festival bonus, income tax paid by icddr,b and subsidized canteen, transport and daycare facilities are subject to space availability.
