Research Investigator (Adv#82/2026)

The Genome Centre at icddr,b is a cutting-edge facility specializing in genomic research, pathogen surveillance, clinical and public health research. Using advanced sequencing technologies, the centre supports infectious disease surveillance, AMR research, outbreak response, and genomic capacity building. Importantly, the Genome Centre has expanded into cancer next-generation sequencing (NGS) testing to support personalized treatment for cancer patients by identifying clinically relevant mutations that can guide precision oncology decisions.

Position Description:
The Research Investigator will report to the Associate Scientist and will be responsible for conducting genetic counselling services, oncology research, and cancer genomics activities within the Genome Centre. The specific areas of responsibility include:

  • Develop research design, methodology, SOPs, and study implementation plans for oncology and cancer genomics projects;
  • Provide input in protocol development, internal and external review, and revision of research proposals;
  • Provide genetic counselling support for cancer patients and families, including pre-test and post-test counselling for cancer NGS testing;
  • Interpret clinically relevant cancer genomic findings in coordination with oncologists, clinical geneticists, and laboratory scientists;
  • Participate in oncology research focused on cancer genomics, therapeutic response, resistance, molecular biomarkers, and personalized treatment;
  • Coordinate collection, processing, quality control, storage, and documentation of clinical and research samples in compliance with ethical and clinical research standards;
  • Analyze and integrate genomic, clinical, and functional data to support cancer research;
  • Generate laboratory and research data, prepare scientific reports, and present findings to supervisors, clinicians, and collaborators;
  • Provide inputs to prepare manuscripts, reports, abstracts, and grant applications;
  • Train junior research staff and students in research design, data interpretation, and scientific reporting;
  • Ensure safe handling of clinical samples, biological materials, chemical reagents, and biohazardous waste to maintain good laboratory practice and a safe working environment.

Required qualification and experience:

  • Master's in Biomedical Sciences/Genetic Engineering & Biotechnology/Biochemistry/Molecular Biology/ Microbiology with good academic records. PhD in Oncology is preferred.
  • At least 5 years of working experience in laboratory research, including project implementation, laboratory data generation and analysis.

Location: Mohakhali, Dhaka. 

Contract Type and duration:

  • Short-Term; duration will be 06 months with a possibility of extension, subject to availability of funds and performance.

Salary & Benefits:

  • Tk.140,750/-per month (consolidated) inclusive of house rent and conveyance allowances; Festival bonus, income tax paid by icddr,b and subsidized canteen. Transport and daycare facilities are subject to space availability.
