Study Nurse with Environmental Health and WASH under the Health Systems and Population Studies Division (Adv#85/2026)

The Environmental Health and WASH Program under HSPSD focuses on understanding human susceptibility to environmental hazards and developing effective water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) interventions to reduce related disease burdens.
 

The position holder will directly involve in “Perinatal mortality Outcomes Through Household infection pathways”, a nested study within the CRADLE trial. The study aims to assess whether residing in a household with a concrete floor during pregnancy and delivery reduces perinatal mortality and to investigate infection-related pathways, pathogen transmission, and antimicrobial resistance among mothers and newborns.

Key responsibilities:

The Study Nurse will report to the Project Research Physician. The position holder will be responsible for collecting maternal vaginal swab samples from pregnant women during the third trimester of pregnancy in accordance with study protocols and ethical guidelines. The major responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Collect vaginal swab samples from enrolled pregnant women following study standard operating procedures (SOPs);
• Maintain patient record confidentiality and practice best Nursing Ethics and Code of Conduct.
• Follow infection prevention and control procedures during all sample collection activities;
• label, document, store, and transfer collected specimens Properly according to study guidelines;
• Maintain accurate sample collection records and study documentation;
• Coordinate with Community Health Workers (CHWs), field supervisors, and study investigators in research-related activities including sample collection;
• Report any adverse events or participant concerns to the supervisor;
• Participate in study training sessions, refresher trainings, and quality assurance activities;
• Perform any other study-related duties assigned by the supervisor.

Required qualifications and experience:

• Diploma in Nursing Science and Midwifery/BSc in Nursing from a recognized institution with valid registration from the Bangladesh Nursing and Midwifery Council (BNMC);
• 1 year of relevant working experience. Candidates having experience in the field of maternal health, reproductive health, specimen collection will be preferred;
• Ability to communicate effectively with pregnant women and community members;
• Willingness to travel within the study area and conduct field-based activities;
• Prefer candidate who is a resident in Sirajganj/Rajshahi Division.

Contract Type and duration:

Short-Term; duration will be 06 months with a possibility of extension subject to availability of funds and performance.

Salary & benefits:

• 37,680/-per month (consolidated) inclusive of house rent and conveyance allowances;
• Festival bonus, income tax paid by icddr,b and subsidized canteen;
• Transport and daycare facilities are subject to space availability.
