Community Health Worker (CHW) with Environmental Health and WASH under the Health Systems and Population Studies Division (Adv#86/2026)

The Environmental Health and WASH Program under HSPSD focuses on understanding human susceptibility to environmental hazards and developing effective water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) interventions to reduce related disease burdens. 

The position holder will directly involve in “Perinatal mortality Outcomes Through Household infection pathways (POTH)”, a nested study within the CRADLE trial. The study aims to assess whether residing in a household with a concrete floor during pregnancy and delivery reduces perinatal mortality and to investigate infection-related pathways, pathogen transmission, and antimicrobial resistance among mothers and newborns.

Key Responsibilities 

The Community Health Worker (CHW) will directly report to the Study Physician of the POTH study. The major areas of responsibilities include:

• Visit selected households and maintain regular contact with study participants;
• Conduct scheduled household follow-up visits during pregnancy and the postnatal period;
• Explain the study and obtain informed consent from participants;
• Administer structured questionnaires and complete study forms accurately;
• Perform newborn assessments and screen for signs of Possible Serious Bacterial Infection (PSBI) according to study guidelines; refer mothers and newborns requiring medical attention to designated health facilities following study referral protocols;
• Collect and store biological and environmental samples according to study SOPs;
• Maintain study records, participant tracking forms, and field activity logs;
• Report field challenges and adverse events to supervisors in a timely manner;
• Perform any other study-related duties assigned by the supervisor.

Required qualifications and experience:

• HSC or equivalent;
• Minimum one-year experience in the relevant field. Preferably who have previously worked in a study related to mother and child health;
• Good communication skill;
• Good technical knowledge and ability to use smart phone and Tab;
• Willingness to travel within the study area and conduct field-based activities.

Contract Type and duration:

Short-Term; duration will be 06 months with a possibility of extension subject to availability of funds and performance.

Salary & benefits:

• 25,560/-per month (consolidated) inclusive of house rent and conveyance allowances;
• Festival bonus, income tax paid by icddr,b and subsidized canteen.
• Transport and daycare facilities are subject to space availability.
