Senior Field Assistant with Emerging & Re-emerging Infections under the Infectious Diseases Division (Internal#99/2026)

icddr,b is a Bangladesh-based international health research institute that strives to solve key public health problems through high-quality scientific research and innovation.

The Programme for Emerging & Re-emerging Infections at icddr,b is implementing a project, aiming to identify the causes of death for children under age five and stillbirths in Faridpur district. The project is collaborating with the Government to arrange different data to action activities and support stakeholders for the available data.

Position Description:

The Senior Field Assistant will report to Study Physician and will be responsible for the following duties and responsibilities:

• Prepare instruments, label and store tissue specimens during Minimally Invasive Tissue Sampling (MITS) procedures and maintain proper documentation;
• Facilitate collection of maternal clinical samples, including blood, urine, and high vaginal swabs;
• Record data of eligible cases in registers and enter data accurately into the related study portals;
• Maintain consistent communication and coordination with hospital staff and healthcare providers to facilitate timely notification and smooth implementation of the hospital surveillance activities;
• Handle, preserve, and transport collected specimens to designated laboratories while maintaining cold chain and biosafety standards.
• Support physicians in ward rounds, patient follow-up, and data collection;
• Provide data to prepare periodical reports, and maintain accurate documentation as directed by supervisors.

Required experience and qualifications:

• HSC or equivalent;
• Minimum 3 years of relevant experience;
• Experience in facilitating sample collection from high-risk pregnant women, neonates and bereaved mothers will be given preference.

Contract Type and Duration:

Contractual Services Agreement basis (CSA); duration will be 6 months with a possibility of extension, subject to availability of funds and performance.

Salary & benefits: 

• Tk. 33,397/-per month (consolidated) inclusive of house rent and conveyance allowances;
• Festival bonus, income tax paid by icddr,b and subsidized canteen, transport and daycare facilities are subject to space availability.
