The Genome Centre at icddr,b is a cutting-edge facility specializing in genomic research, pathogen surveillance, clinical and public health research. Using advanced sequencing technologies, the centre supports infectious disease surveillance, AMR research, outbreak response, and genomic capacity building. Importantly, the Genome Centre has expanded into cancer next-generation sequencing (NGS) testing to support personalized treatment for cancer patients by identifying clinically relevant mutations that can guide precision oncology decisions.

Position Description:
The Research Assistants will report to the Senior Research Investigator/Associate Scientist and will be responsible for analyzing, processing, and modelling biological and genomic data. The specific areas of responsibility include:

• Prepare weekly task lists for analytical workflows and computational experiments;
• Support the research team with data preprocessing, exploratory analysis, and troubleshooting of biological and statistical workflows;
• Analyze microbial genomic and other high-throughput biological datasets using established bioinformatics tools and/or machine learning frameworks;
• Conduct basic phylogenetic analyses, statistical modelling, and feature extraction under supervision;
• Analyze data from microbial cultures and laboratory assays;
• Maintain and organize genomic and tabular databases, ensuring data integrity, version control, and compliance with data storage protocols;
• Analyze datasets to identify trends, evaluate workflow outcomes, and assist in preparing summary reports, data visualizations, and presentations;
• Comply with established biosafety, data security, and data disposal protocols for biological and infectious agent datasets;
• Learn and apply advanced analytical tools, algorithmic approaches, software best practices, and domain knowledge through hands-on project work; and
• Participate in internal research meetings, technical discussions, and training sessions to strengthen interdisciplinary research skills.

Required qualifications and experience:

• Bachelor's in Electrical & Electronic Engineering/Data Science/Statistics/Biochemistry/Microbiology/Genetic Engineering/Biotechnology with good academic records.
• At least 1 year of laboratory experience in sequence data analysis.
• Proficiency in Python or R for biological data analysis, statistical computing, or machine learning.
• Familiarity with genomic analysis tools (e.g., sequence alignment, phylogenetics) OR standard computational/ML libraries (e.g., Scikit-learn, Pandas, NumPy, PyTorch/TensorFlow).

Contract Type and Duration:

• Short Term Contractual Service Agreement basis; duration will be 6 months with a possibility of extension subject to availability of funds and performance.

Salary & Benefits:

• Tk. 41,532/-per month (consolidated) inclusive of house rent and conveyance allowances;
• Festival bonus, income tax paid by icddr,b, and subsidized canteen; Transport and daycare facilities are subject to space availability.
