Research Investigator with Maternal and Child Nutrition under the Nutrition Research Division (Internal#123/2026)

The Nutrition Research Division at icddr,b conducts clinical, laboratory, and translational research to understand the biological mechanisms underlying malnutrition and to develop and evaluate innovative nutritional interventions for improving child and maternal health and promoting recovery. The research integrates advanced laboratory approaches to investigate biological responses to nutritional interventions and generate evidence to strengthen the prevention and management of malnutrition, particularly in low-resource settings.

Position Description & Key Responsibilities:

The Research Investigator will report to the Principal Investigator (PI) and will be responsible for coordinating, and implementing clinical, field, laboratory, nutritional, and public health research activities, from research conceptualization and study planning through implementation, data generation, analysis, and dissemination, in accordance with approved research protocols and ethical and quality standards. The specific areas of responsibility include:

  • Coordinate clinical, laboratory, nutritional, and public health research activities, ensuring alignment with project objectives, approved protocols, and timelines.
  • Generate new research ideas and formulate research questions focused on nutrition, health, and the prevention and management of malnutrition; contribute to protocols, proposals, research designs, methodologies, SOPs, study documents, and implementation plans.
  • Coordinate and monitor field-based activities, including participant recruitment and follow-up, anthropometric and body composition measurements, clinical assessments, and implementation of study procedures using standardized techniques and appropriate equipment.
  • Coordinate biological and clinical sample collection, processing, quality control, storage, and documentation in compliance with ethical, clinical research, laboratory, and biosafety standards.
  • Monitor study progress, data quality, protocol compliance, and field and laboratory operations; identify and resolve operational challenges in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Analyse and integrate clinical, anthropometric, laboratory, and other research data; generate research findings, prepare scientific reports, and present results to supervisors, clinicians, researchers, collaborators, and other stakeholders.
  • Contribute to manuscripts, abstracts, reports, research proposals, and grant applications; develop training programmes and provide technical guidance to research staff and field workers while ensuring compliance with research ethics, GCP, GLP, biosafety requirements, and institutional policies.

Required qualifications and experience:

  • Master’s degree in Public Health/ Biochemistry/ Molecular Biology/ Microbiology, or a related field from a reputed university, with a good academic record;
  • 5 years of relevant experience in public health or biomedical research; At least one publication as first author in peer-reviewed journals is required;
  • The ideal candidate should be proactive, dynamic, self-motivated, and capable of working independently as well as effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

Location: Mohakhali Campus, Dhaka

Number of Position: 01 post

Contract Type and Duration:

  • Short-Term; duration will be 9 months with a possibility of extension, subject to availability of funds and performance.

Salary & benefits:

  • Tk. 140,750/-per month (consolidated) inclusive of house rent and conveyance allowances; Festival bonus, income tax paid by icddr,b and subsidized canteen. Transport and daycare facilities are subject to space availability.
