Senior Research Investigator (Internal#129/2026)

icddr,b is a Bangladesh-based international health research institute committed to addressing key public health challenges through high-quality research and innovation.

The Mucosal Immunology and Vaccinology Unit (MIVU) under the Infectious Diseases Division focuses on studies to understand the systemic and mucosal immunology of diseases with natural infections, and on applying and extending these findings to better determine vaccine efficacy.

Position Description:
The Senior Research Investigator will report to the Senior Scientist/Scientist and will be responsible for planning and implementing research projects, supervising research teams, ensuring quality data collection and maintaining ethical standards, organizing training for research teams following standard operating procedures, and coordinating research studies with government and non-government partners within the organizational values and guidelines. The role includes, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities:

  • Develop research proposals and prepare reports;
  • Conduct data analysis, identify knowledge gaps, and derive meaningful, evidence-based outputs.
  • Write and submit manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals;
  • Create a detailed project plan covering milestone, deliverables, etc; develop a detailed work plan and take the initiative to implement and achieve study objectives;
  • Assess financial and non-financial resource requirements aligned with project methodologies and institutional priorities;
  • Facilitate Institutional Review Board (IRB) submissions and approvals for different research projects; 
  • Conduct critical peer reviews of scientific manuscripts to support publication efforts;
  • Identify and apply for funding opportunities from national and international grant agencies.
  • Organize and lead workshops, seminars, and collaborative initiatives in scientific research;
  • Present research findings at national and international conferences to disseminate scientific knowledge and develop new networks;
  • Provide mentorship to junior researchers on data collection methods, research design, and scientific writing.

 Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • MBBS degree from a Medical College recognized by the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council with one year of completed internship and valid BMDC registration;
  • A Master’s degree in Public Health (MPH) will be given preference;
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in health systems research; 
  • Experience in data analysis using SPSS and/or STATA is preferable;
  • Experience in clinical trials and surveillance of enteric diseases will be given preference;
  • Publications in peer-reviewed journals will be given preference.

Contract Type and Duration:

  • Fixed Term; duration will be 01 year with a possibility of extension, subject to availability of funds and performance.

Salary & benefits: 

  • Annual Tk. 20,81,930/- inclusive of house rent, conveyance, and other admissible benefits;
  • 14.8% provident fund contribution, income tax paid by icddr,b, children allowance @Tk.2,492/- per child per month, festival bonus, contributory healthcare support including dependent spouse and children, group life insurance, and subsidized canteen. Transport and daycare facilities are subject to space availability.
