Field Assistant with Emerging and Re-emerging Infections under the Infectious Diseases Division (Adv#138/2026)

Programme for Emerging and Re-emerging Infections under Infectious Diseases Division is conducting research project aims to investigate the ecological, epidemiological, and zoonotic pathways associated with henipavirus emergence through an integrated One Health approach. The project will incorporate animal and wildlife surveillance, ecological assessment, characterization of human–animal interfaces, pathogen detection, and identification of factors associated with potential spillover.
Position Description::
The Field Assistant reporting to Field Research Officer will be mainly responsible for following duties and responsibilities:
- Participate in field planning and preparation for scheduled bat-trapping activities;
- Set up, operate, monitor, and safely dismantle approved bat-trapping equipment, including mist nets and other equipment specified by the study protocol;
- Monitor trapping sites during scheduled trapping periods, including evening and night-time activities as required by bat activity and the study protocol;
- Safely capture bats using approved trapping methods while minimizing injury, stress, and unnecessary exposure to both bats and field personnel;
- Support trained research personnel in restraining and positioning captured bats for biological sample collection;
- Maintain accurate records of trapping activities, including date, location, trapping duration, number of bats captured, species or identification information;
- Maintain and properly store bat-trapping equipment, including nets, poles, holding bags, PPE, and other field materials;
- Participate in field training, bio-safety and refresher training, and other capacity-building activities organized by the project.
Required qualification and experience:
- SSC or equivalent. Educational qualifications may be relaxed for previous practical experience in bat trapping;
- At least 1 year experience in bat trapping, wildlife handling, or related field activities;

Contract Type and Duration:
- Fixed Term; duration will be 01 year with a possibility of extension, subject to availability of funds and performance.
Salary & benefits:
- Annual Tk. 3,51,690/- inclusive of house rent, conveyance, and other admissible benefits;
- 14.8% provident fund contribution, income tax paid by icddr,b, children allowance @Tk.2,492/- per child per month, festival bonus, contributory healthcare support including dependent spouse and children, group life insurance, and subsidized canteen. Transport and daycare facilities are subject to space availability.
