Senior Research Assistant (Internal#140/2026)

icddr,b is a Bangladesh-based international health research institute committed to addressing key public health challenges through high-quality research and innovation.

The Mucosal Immunology and Vaccinology Unit (MIVU) under the Infectious Diseases Division focuses on studies to understand the systemic and mucosal immunology of diseases with natural infections, and on applying and extending these findings to better determine vaccine efficacy.

Position Description:
The Senior Research Assistant will report to the Assistant/Associate Scientist and will be responsible for performing laboratory tests, managing data, implementing project activities, and Ensuring Quality assurance to support research studies in accordance with project-specific research procedures and organisational values and guidelines. The specific areas of responsibility include:

• Process and store biological specimens from enrolled patients and monitor proper storage at refrigerator;
• Carry out PCR, real-time RT-PCR/tissue culture-based viral detection, and typing; Resolve lab test issues, and raise escalations to the supervisor, if required;
• Perform and carry out laboratory assays or research-based assigned duties;
• Revise analysis based on guidance from supervisor and discussions with other team members;
• Develop own skills and capability on diverse technical projects and in scientific research;
• Carry out detection of B-cell and T-cell mediated immune response against V. cholerae, Shigella, Salmonella and ETEC infection;
• Contribute to laboratory analyses and assist senior members of the laboratory

Required Qualifications and Experience:

• BSc in Microbiology/Molecular Biology/Biochemistry/Biotechnology/Genetic Engineering with an excellent academic record;
• 3 years of laboratory research experience.

Contract Type and Duration:

• Fixed Term; duration will be 01 year with a possibility of extension, subject to availability of funds and performance.

Salary & benefits: 

• Annual Salary of Tk.603,200/- inclusive of house rent, conveyance allowances and other admissible benefits, including provident fund contribution, income tax paid by icddr,b, children's allowance, festival bonus, contributory healthcare support, group life insurance, and subsidized canteen. Transport and daycare facilities are subject to space availability.
