Gut-Brain Axis Laboratory is involved in observational and interventional research projects encompassing phase 1/2/3 clinical trials on autoimmune and neurodegenerative diseases under Infectious Diseases Division.

The Research Trainee reports to the Assistant Scientist and will be responsible for preparing research concepts and protocols, planning, organizing, and directly implementing research activities; analysing data and writing manuscripts; providing a leadership role, negotiate with key stakeholders for field management and give relevant input in ongoing project operations, with the objective of supporting research studies within the guidelines of project-specific research procedures and organizational values and guidelines. The specific areas of responsibility are detailed below:

Position Description:

• Create a detailed project plan as per the timeline and coordinate with internal teams to ensure execution;
• Assign responsibilities to the team and initiate activities as per the project plan;
• Monitor the progress of research and fieldwork;
• Escalate issues to the supervisor in order to efficiently and effectively execute the research according to protocol;
• Apply scientific analysis to research findings and derive implications for public health and share initial findings;
• Prepare manuscript/research report with support from supervisor for publication in international peer-reviewed journals;
• Review scientific articles and explore different research ideas;
• Make necessary changes and finalize the concept note in order to develop a research concept in alignment with division objectives;
• Provide inputs to the Supervisor and Principal Investigator (PI) in research proposal and protocol development;
• Prepare protocols in RRC format and present them to the RRC and ERC; Make necessary changes to protocols according to comments/inputs of reviewers;
• Finalize the protocol to develop a robust research protocol meeting the guidelines of icddr,b.

Required qualifications and experience:

Young, bright individuals who meet the following criteria and are aspiring to develop their career as public health researchers in the research-based environment at icddr,b are encouraged to apply.

• MBBS from a reputed institute with good academic results (Please mention the percentage of marks/CGPA in your application) and registered by the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council. Candidates with a Master’s in Public Health (MPH) will be given preference;
• At least 3 years of experience in Public Health research, particularly in multi-country clinical trial data management;
• Candidates who demonstrate exceptional research skills and/or have publications in international peer-reviewed journals will be given preference.

Contract Type and duration:

• Research Traineeship basis; duration will be 1 year with a possibility of extension subject to availability of funds and performance.

Stipend & Facilities:

• Stipend: Tk. 82,270/- per month (consolidated) inclusive of house rent and conveyance allowances. Income tax paid by icddr,b, and subsidized canteen and Transport is subject to space availability.

• Prospects: After completion of the program or completion of 1 year (at least), the Trainees may apply against any other suitable positions at icddr,b. However, such employment is not guaranteed. The selected Trainees will not be eligible for any other fellowship program at icddr,b.
