Research Investigator with Emerging and Re-emerging Infections under the Infectious Diseases Division (Adv#136/2026)

Programme for Emerging and Re-emerging Infections under Infectious Diseases Division is conducting research project  aims to investigate the ecological, epidemiological, and zoonotic pathways associated with henipavirus emergence through an integrated One Health approach. The project will incorporate animal and wildlife surveillance, ecological assessment, characterization of human–animal interfaces, pathogen detection, and identification of factors associated with potential spillover.

 Position Description::

The Research Investigator reporting to Project Coordinator and will be mainly responsible for following duties and responsibilities:

  • Plan and conduct field activities for the safe capture and temporary handling of fruit bats (Pteropus medius) in project-selected sites, in accordance with approved protocols;
  • Collect approved biological specimens from captured Pteropus medius using appropriate veterinary and wildlife-handling procedures;
  • Perform basic health and condition assessments of captured bats and document relevant clinical, behavioral, ecological, and exposure-related observations;
  • Ensure accurate identification, labeling, documentation, temporary storage, and transfer of collected specimens to the designated laboratory or receiving team;
  • Conduct assessment of bat populations, wildlife ecology, and human–wildlife interfaces relevant to henipavirus emergence and spillover;
  • Conduct data analysis to achieve study objectives and prepare reports and manuscripts to disseminate research findings;
  • Work with Principal Investigator in scientific and technical activities including manuscript writing, publication and proposal development;
  • Conduct training for field personnel on bat handling, capture, specimen collection, biosafety, animal welfare, and field safety;
  • Coordinate with veterinary, ecology, epidemiology, laboratory, and data-management teams to ensure quality and timely completion of field activities.

Required qualification and experience:

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from a renowned institution. Candidates having Masters in  relevant subject will get preference;
  • At least 5 years research experience including wildlife studies focused on bats and Nipah virus outbreaks.

Number of Positions: 01

Contract Type and Duration:

  • Fixed Term; duration will be 01 year with a possibility of extension, subject to availability of funds and performance.

Salary & benefits: 

  • Annual Tk. 16,89,000/- inclusive of house rent, conveyance, and other admissible benefits;
  • 14.8% provident fund contribution, income tax paid by icddr,b, children allowance @Tk.2,492/- per child per month, festival bonus, contributory healthcare support including dependent spouse and children, group life insurance, and subsidized canteen. Transport and daycare facilities are subject to space availability.
